Australia wins Gold in Adaptive Rowing at
World Championships
Dominic Moneypenny
of Tasmania, making his international debut in the "fixed seat"
men's single scull, continued Australia's impressive record in Adaptive
rowing racing at the World Rowing Championships in Gifu Japan.
After qualifying
first for the final in the previous day's seeding race, Dominic took
an early lead and was never headed. Despite increasing headwinds,
Dominic was able to maintain his position in front of the field and
held off a late charge from the Italian sculler in the last 250 metres
to win the Gold Medal.
Australia has
won gold medals in adaptive events at the last three World Rowing
Championships. Rowing is to be included in the Paralympic Games in
Beijing.
