- IWBF ASIA
OCEANIA JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP 2005
Australia has qualified for the World Junior Wheelchair Basketball
Championships, to be held in Birmingham, England in August this
year, after sweeping the Asia Oceania Qualifying Tournament in Kuala
Lumpur.
Australia defeated Japan twice (53-42 and 60-57) and Malaysia twice
(117-8 and 123-8), with the two games between Australia and Japan
obviously being the feature games of the tournament.
The second clash between the two countries certainly drew the best
from the young Australian team and would have given coach Alan Cox
great heart for the team's chances in the World Junior championships.
The Australian bench players showed great character to help guide
Australia to victory, after leading point-scorers Shaun Norris (3rd
quarter) and Darren Skuse (4th quarter) fouled out of the game.
The full Australian team was Darren Skuse, Katie Hill, Kylie Gauci
and Bill Latham (NSW), Brant Garvey and Shaun Norris (WA), Mitchell
Van Tongeren and Jace Clare (QLD), Melanie Domaschenz (VIC), coach
Alan Cox (NSW) and Australian referee Nigel Wiggins.
