Athletes with a Disability Ltd
The next meeting
of the AAWD Board will be held on Tuesday 5 April. Funding allocations
for AAWD's second and final round of funding for 2004-2005 will
be made at this meeting.
CPASRF
CPASRF in conjunction
with AAWD will be hosting a Classification Course in Sydney during
April. The course will be conducted by International Classifiers
Joan Steele- Mills and Sean Tweedy. The course will be held at the
Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen from Friday 15th April 5.30 pm
to Sunday 17th April noon.
For those requiring
accommodation it is available at the Academy of Sport on Friday
and Saturday nights at a total cost of $175 per person.
Successful participants
will be accredited to give National Classifications as part of a
panel as per CPASRF and CPISRA policy.
Intending participants
should send their details including their name, address, email,
phone contacts and area of sport expertise to AAWD.
Archery
The Wheelchair
Sports Australia Archery National Championships will be held in
conjunction with the 58th Australian Archery Championships 2nd -
9th April 2005, Melbourne, Victoria. Good luck to all competitors.
Athletics
South Australian
Neil Fuller, one of Australia's most successful Paralympians, has
announced his retirement from national and international athletics.
Neil competed at his first of four Paralympic Games in Barcelona
in 1992, returning with relay gold and three individual medals.
Over 12 years at the top of his sport he amassed six gold, six silver
and three bronze medals in Paralympic competition. Few who saw it
will ever forget his dramatic win in the 400m in Sydney where he
ran down the leader in the final 10 metres to claim gold. Neil has
also competed at three IPC Athletics World Championships, winning
8 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. He won gold in a 200m exhibition
race at the IAAF World Athletic Championships in Edmonton in 2001
and placed 5th in the same event in 2003 in Paris.
Basketball

OCEANIA JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP 2005
From March 28th
to April 1st, 2005, the junior teams of Australia, Japan and Malaysia
will play for the right of the top two teams to represent IWBF Asia
Oceania at the World Junior Championship 2005 in Birmingham next
August.
The Australian
team is returning to the World Junior scene having played in the
first World Junior Championship in Toronto, Ontario in 1997 winning
the Bronze medal. Australia did not take a team to the second World
Junior Championship in Blumenau, Santa Catarina, Brazil in 2001.
Canada is the current World Junior Champions.

OCEANIA QT HOST TO BE ANNOUNCED
IWBF Asia Oceania
will announce the host of the qualification tournament leading into
the 2006 World Wheelchair Basketball Championship in the near future.
The qualification
tournament (IWBF Asia Oceania QT) will be conducted in October.
Teams competing are, Women. Australia, China, Japan and Thailand.
For the Men. Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, Japan, South Korea
and Thailand.
The last IWBF
Asia Oceania QT for men was conducted in Shellharbour south of Sydney
in March of 2004. This will be the first QT in Asia Oceania for
women's teams giving Australia and Japan competition for the World
Championship spots.

GOLD CUP 2006 WEB SITE
A new web site

The Gold Cup 2006 will be held from July 3rd until July 16th 2006
in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. A total of 20 teams will participate
in this World Championship including both Dutch teams.
Boccia
The 2005 Asia
& South Pacific Boccia Championships will take place in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia between 15th -22nd September 2005.
Handcycling
Andrew Budge
reports the Handcycling National Championships held this month in
Perth were preceded by a three day training camp with presentations
covering Sports Nutrition, Physiotherapy/Body Maintenance, Physiology,
Bike Set up, Sports Psychology and Strength Training.
Competitors
at the nationals were double the numbers of 2004 and it was great
to see four international competitors entered to race. Notably Johan
Reekers from Holland, who was a Bronze Medallist at the 2004 Athens
Paralympic Games in the Road Race.

Powerlifting
Robyn Stephensen
reports the Powerlifting Nationals held in Brisbane on Saturday
19 March 2005 saw a number of new lifters at this event and all
acquitted themselves extremely well. Deahnne McIntrye took out the
ladies section whilst Darren Gardiner won the men's section followed

Rugby
The International
Wheelchair and Amputee Sports (IWAS) has announced the IWRF 2006
Wheelchair Rugby World Championships has been awarded to New Zealand,
subject to signature to Contract, and will take place from 7 to
17 September 2006 in the city of Christchurch.
Swimming
The Excell trip
to USA Paralympics has been cancelled due to insufficient interest
from members of the Excell Squad.
