Combined Administration of ASOD, CP-ASRF & WSA The Interim Management Committee of the Combined Administration of ASOD, CP-ASRF & WSA met in January. At the meeting held in Sydney two new board members were selected to join interim board members Bob Cole, Liz Pollock and Corny van Eldik in forming a new five-person committee. Final touches are currently being made to the constitution of the new organisation being created to administer the three national sports organisations for the disabled to be called "Australian Athletes with a Disability." ASOD At the recent ASOD Annual General Meeting both Graham Golley and Robyn Howe were honoured with Life Memberships of ASOD. Graham, a previous employee of ASOD served tirelessly as National Executive Director for many years whilst Robyn has been an ASOD volunteer for over ten years and has previously held the position of President. NSW Amputees recently announced Bev Cole as their new President, congratulations Bev! Alan Dean the Secretary General of ISOD has advised the 2003 ISOD General Assembly will be held in Madrid on 26 April. Wheelchair Sports Australia The WSA Board is currently reviewing tenders for the 2005 National Junior Games and will announce the successful tender in February. Commission has just launched a business The website provides up-to-date information on business issues, principles of best practice developed by the ASC, case studies and links to other useful sites. The site can be found at www.activeaustralia.org/business/index.htm The ASC together with the Office of the Status of Women have established the Sport Leadership Grants Program for Rural and Remote Women. The program is aimed at providing women with an opportunity to undertake accredited sport leadership training in the areas of coaching, officiating, sports administration and sport management. The Program provides successful applicants with a one-off grant of up to $5,000 for individuals and up to $10,000 for incorporated organisations. The program offers
grants in three key areas, indigenous women, women in disability sport
and general sports leadership. The list of finalists for the 23rd annual Australian Sport Awards to be held on Wednesday 12 March in Melbourne has been announced, finalists include Christopher Diehm, Chantel Wolfenden and Eliza Stankovic. SPORTS NEWS Archery The 2003 National Archery Championships will be held in Queensland from 26 April to 3 May. Australia Under 20 Basketball Camp was held from the 10th - 12th January
at the Sydney Academy of Sport Narrabeen. All athletes who attended the camp will now go on to play for their home state at the National Junior Disabled Games to be held in Adelaide during April. The Australian National Wheelchair Basketball League team to compete at the Osaka Cup, are undertaking final preparations for the tournament to be played in February. We wish the team every success. Handcycling WSA has announced the 2003 National Handcycling Championships will be held from 10-11 May in Sydney. The Championships will consist of a 20km time trial to be held at the Regatta Centre, Penrith and a 30.6km road race held at Waratah Park, Sutherland. Lawn Bowls Entry packs for the Open WSA National Lawn Bowls Championships to be held in Darwin during May have been released to member state organisations. Contact your member state organisation or the Combined Administration to receive a copy of the entry pack. Swimming Members of the Excell Swimming Squad attended a seven-day training camp in January at the University of Wollongong. A total of fifteen swimmers from NSW, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia attended the camp and received valuable coaching from Bruce Power, John Ornsby, Anne Green and Margaret Gregson as well as hearing advice on nutrition, stretching and mental preparation. The Excell Committee have decided to send a team of 12-15 athletes to a meet in China in September of this year. Further details will follow. The medal tally for the IPC World Swimming Championships has been released, Australia finished 7th on the tally.
Kylie Elliot from Australian Swimming has advised the selection criteria for the 2003 - 2004 Australian Dolphins Squads which includes a SWD squad has been released. Slam. The Wheelchair Classic 8's at the Australian Open takes place
from today to Sunday 26 January 2003. 2002 ITF World Champion and home
favourite David Hall will be eager to gain revenge for his defeat to
