13th National
Junior Games for Athletes with a Disability
The 13th National
Junior Games for Athletes with a Disability hosted by the New South
Wales Wheelchair Sports Association were held in Sydney from Friday
8th April to Friday 15th April 2005. The Games provided an excellent
opportunity for Australia's junior athletes to demonstrate and develop
their skills across a wide range of sporting competitions.
Competition
was held in seven sports, Archery, Athletics, Basketball, Powerlifting,
Swimming, Table Tennis and Tennis with competitors from throughout
Australia, Japan, Thailand, United States of America and New Zealand.
Congratulations
and thanks goes to Meredith Evans and the organising committee for
their untiring efforts in hosting the event. Thank you also goes
to the President and members of NSW Wheelchair Sports Association
for accepting the responsibility for hosting what has become one
of the largest national events for athletes with a disability.

Jeremy Tidy
was awarded the Louise Sauvage Champion Athlete of the Games Award
as an athlete who performed at a high standard and in a sportsman
like manner. Jeremy won silver in Basketball and performed extremely
well in Swimming winning eight gold medals.
The Kevin Bawden
Shield, awarded to the state with the highest average points was
presented to South Australia.
The Best Overall
Team Shield was awarded to NSW who won the highest number of points.
Evan Bennett
was awarded the Lord Taverners Award for the most outstanding contribution
to junior sports in Australia.
In basketball
NSW defeated WA in the Gold medal play off whilst in the Bronze
medal play-off Victoria defeated Queensland. Bill Latham was named
the Most Valuable Player and the Highest Point Scorer for the tournament.
Dylan Alcott was awarded the Best New Talent Award.

In the Basketball All Star Games USA defeated Australia in both
the men's and women's games.
