Fearnley wins back to back Gold Award at the Australian Sport Awards

Kurt Fearnley of Wheelchair Sports NSW has won the Sportscover Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability for the second consecutive year at the Australian Sport Awards. Fearnley had an outstanding year in wheelchair sports, winning the 1,500m event held at the IAAF World Championships in Osaka as well as a number of the iconic marathons around the World. Fearnley won the New York, Chicago, Paris and Seoul marathons in the one calendar year.

The two other nominees who were shortlisted for the awards Darryl Hoyle (Category: Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability - waterskiing) and Ray Epstein (Category: Sports Executive of the Year), both of Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association - QLD, unfortunately missed taking out their categories with Darryl’s category being won by Kurt Fearnley and Ray’s being won by Brian Cook from AFL (CEO of Geelong Cats). Well done to both Darryl and Ray for reaching the shortlist of their respective categories.
