The National Junior Sports Committee was formed in February, 1982, following the success of the 1st National Junior Wheelchair Games held in Adelaide where approx. 100 young people from around Australia participated.
Dr. John Grant was the Chairperson of the steering committee, and since then Chairpersons have included Ian Wardrop, Yvonne Talbott, Anne Marsh, Sally Salotti and the present Chairperson Marg Angel.
The main aims of the Junior Sports Committee are to:

To build self confidence.
- To increase self esteem and self image.
- To encourage independence.
- To improve social skills.
- To create success through achievement.
- To build character through training and discipline.
- To improve physical fitness and strength.
- To improve concentration.
- To provide experience through travel.
- To encourage responsibility.
- To ensure enjoyment, fun and involvement
- To provide adapted (modified) rules for various age/classification groups.
